The POKER-BC107 is the first in the new "MONOCHROME" series of pedals from NRG Effects.
POKER-BC107 = Vintage Style Frequency Booster.
Drawing on inspiration from the classic "treble-booster" circuits used widely in the 60's and 70's, the POKER uses a single BC107 "Metal-Can" silicon transistor and surrounding hand-wired circuitry to interact with your instrument, pedals and amps to create singing overdrive, saturation and sustain.
The boosted vocal frequencies can push your amp and drive pedals really hard in just the right places to give a wide range of classic and original tones with lots of character and vintage feel.
The LOUD control is your master volume, with lots of level available to boost your signal and drive your pedals and amp harder.
The BASS and TREB 3-way toggle switches give a wide range of responses, from vintage “treble-booster” to throaty, warm and fat tones.
The POKER highly interacts with your guitar's pickups and controls, so to achieve this it should ideally be used first in your signal chain, before any buffers or other effects. (But obviously feel free to experiment and try it later in your signal chain and after other effects if you wish).
With your guitar’s volume control at maximum, you’ll get the most gain and pronounce vocal frequency response. Turning down your volume control will produce a wide range of cleaner tones, with less pronounced vocal frequency responses.
I auditioned lots of different transistors for the POKER, and the BC107 came out as my clear favourite for tone, character, performance and practicality.
Unlike similar circuits that use germanium transistors, the POKER-BC107 runs perfectly from standard 9V DC Centre Negative power supplies and does not suffer from temperature and environmental changes.
LOUD = Master output volume level.
TREB = 3 position treble filter switch.
BASS = 3 position bass level switch.
ON = True bypass footswitch with ON status indicate by lit white LED.
IN = 6.35mm (1/4”) mono jack cable input.
OUT = 6.35mm (1/4”) mono jack cable output.
9V = 9V DC 2.1mm centre negative power supply input.
The current draw of the POKER-BC107 is less than 10mA.
I recommend using a good quality regulated 9V DC power supply.
The NRG Effects Monochrome series is a range of new mini sized pedals, all handmade and hand-wired using premium quality components by Neil R. Grimes in Eastbourne, England.
Don't be fooled by the size; these clean and concise little pedals are all big on tone, surprisingly versatile and very musically inspiring.
Different models in the range will released and handmade to order in small batches. So numbers and availability will be limited.
